International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) said its Australian unit, Victoria International Container Terminal Ltd., has deployed additional hybrid automatic container carriers at its Melbourne terminal as part of a capacity expansion program, BusinessWorld reported.
The new carriers are expected to help raise the terminal's annual handling capacity to more than 1.6 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The hybrid machines combine diesel and electric power, reducing fuel consumption and emissions compared to conventional diesel-only units.
ICTSI, a Philippine-based port operator, has been investing in automation and sustainability initiatives across its global network. The Melbourne terminal upgrade aligns with industry trends toward greener port operations and higher throughput efficiency.
