Danone has reignited its legal battle with Chobani, filing a new lawsuit alleging that the Greek yogurt maker’s protein claims mislead consumers, according to Inside Retail Asia. The French food giant argues that Chobani’s marketing overstates the protein content of its products, violating federal advertising standards.
This is the latest chapter in a years-long rivalry between the two companies, which have clashed over everything from patent infringement to product positioning. Danone previously sued Chobani in 2012 over a patent for yogurt-making techniques, a case that was eventually settled.
The new complaint, filed in a U.S. federal court, seeks unspecified damages and an injunction to stop Chobani from using what Danone calls deceptive labeling. Chobani has not yet publicly responded to the latest allegations.
