Party-list Representative Renee Louise M. Co on Tuesday criticized Vice-President Sara Duterte-Carpio for filing a motion to dismiss the impeachment complaints against her, saying the move is a deliberate attempt to avoid accountability.
In a statement reported by BusinessWorld , Co said that instead of addressing the allegations head-on, Duterte is allegedly using technicalities and bureaucratic issues to stall the trial. “First of all, the motion to dismiss is a clear attempt to evade the impeachment process,” Co said.
The lawmaker also urged the Senate to reject the dismissal plea and proceed with the trial to uphold the rule of law. Other legislators have similarly expressed frustration over what they perceive as delays in the impeachment process, though Co’s remarks were the most direct.
