Soybean meal imports from the US are expected to jump by 40 percent this year, according to the US Soybean Export Council. The increase is driven by higher demand for animal feed from the country's poultry sector, which has been expanding to meet domestic consumption and export needs. Philstar Biz reported.

The projected rise reflects the Philippines' reliance on imported soybean meal as a protein source for livestock. Local production of soybeans remains limited, making the country dependent on shipments from major producers like the United States, Brazil, and Argentina.

Industry observers note that the poultry sector's growth has been boosted by rising demand for chicken and eggs, as well as government programs supporting food security. The US Soybean Export Council said the increase underscores the strong trade ties between the two countries in agricultural commodities.
