Visa has expanded its open-loop contactless fare payment system to the Manila Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), allowing commuters to pay using Visa cards, QR codes, and NFC-enabled devices across all 13 stations, as reported by TechPinas. The rollout aims to make train travel faster, safer, and more convenient while advancing the Philippines' shift toward digital payments.

Visa collaborated with RCBC, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and other stakeholders to implement the system. The initiative strengthens financial inclusion by providing easier access to digital payments for Filipinos and international visitors, supporting seamless public transportation across Metro Manila.

This marks Visa's fourth cashless transit project in the Philippines, following successful deployments on MRT-3 and bus systems in Cebu, Mandaue, and Bacolod. The expansion further advances the country's smart mobility ecosystem and underscores the growing role of digital payment technologies in everyday transportation.
