Senator Ana Theresia N. Hontiveros-Baraquel on Tuesday said moves to increase the daily minimum wage should be complemented with wage reforms to improve the living standards of workers, BusinessWorld reported.

In a press statement, Ms. Hontiveros welcomed the P85 wage hike in Metro Manila but noted a need to reform the country’s wage-setting system. She argued that periodic wage adjustments alone are insufficient without broader structural changes to ensure fair compensation.

The senator’s push comes amid ongoing debates over labor protections and cost-of-living pressures. The proposed reforms aim to create a more responsive wage board mechanism that considers inflation and productivity growth.
