The government has increased the installation target for its waste-to-energy (WTE) auction to 400 megawatts (MW), up from the previous capacity, Philstar Biz reported. The move aims to accelerate the development of WTE facilities as part of the country's renewable energy push.
With the higher capacity, more companies are expected to participate in the auction. The Department of Energy has also extended the deadline for bid submissions, giving interested firms additional time to complete the documentary and technical requirements.
Industry analysts view the expanded auction as a positive signal for the WTE sector, which has faced hurdles in permitting and financing. The additional capacity could help the Philippines diversify its energy mix and manage solid waste more sustainably.
